The Bottom Line:
Myself, I only just started playing this game only recently, what with all the november games that blew me away, and although this is not quite what i asked santa for - it doesn't even sound like Skyrim! - I am so glad i didn't miss this game. You have probably heard that the main feature of this game is how hard it can be. To clarify: this is the hardest game I've played in the last 12 years! you will die literally thousands of times. and the worst part? you'll love it. the second you play the game it pits you against foes that will kill you, rape your dead body then as you come back to fight them again, they'll repeat that process. And they'll laugh too. But that's the challenge! You begin to fight every fight like it could be your last, pitting everything you ever learned at gaming against those bastards and when you finally kill him... oh god. the satisfaction of it is the best feeling you can ever have in your bedroom. well top ten anyway. You will have to learn your foe completely to defeat any boss, every twitch and movement, so you can set up the final kill. This stops the battles getting too predictable as even when you learn your foe, if he's got friends with him your stratagems go out the window. the odds will always be against you. I love the danger.
Of course there are a few issues, for instance, the graphics aren't amazing compared some of the recent RPGs going, and there are a few glitches that can really throw you off but these are very rare, i think i got 2 or 3 in my entire time playing it. The online is great. You can talk to other players, not directly of course, but you can leave them little hints and tips (I found a secret route thanks to one guy. Thank you whoever you are.)or just plain gibberish if you want. You can watch how other players died, and some of them are funny
You can get players enter your world and help you out in this great co-op mode, which can really turn the tables (see how they like that!), but you also can get players enter who want to kill you. Cuz my day wasn't bad enough. I'm not keen on this idea of "invading" a player's world mainly because the guy being invaded doesn't know what the eff is going on anway, and having up to three (yes 3) other players trying to slow you down can just be depressing, especially to a new player to the series like meh. But you know, thats my problem, I don't like gang bangs when I'm the er... guy who ..doesn't want to be there... yeah
Ok so to sum it all up. This game seriously needs more publicity as I didn't even know it existed until it was in my Xbox. It is a without doubt great game and more people need to know about it... Unless they already do and I've been living under a rock... In which case don't bother them, or they'll just get all outta whack (they wouldn't let me swear so I'll 90's lingo them)
What was I saying?
Oh yeah Dark Souls. I say give this game the chance it deserves and play it. If anything, you just have to experience it. The Gamer inside you needs to experience it. do it.
How did this get a better review than Skyrim?? its an average game at best.

The Bottom Line:
"Don't believe the hype"
When I first played this I hated it, I thought the controls were aweful and I didnt get very far before putting it down and playing something else. But because of the great reviews I'd seen I gave it another go and and after a while you get used to the quirky controls and I started to enjoy it. but as soon as I did the game became very repetetive and was a constant grind just trying to get to the next boss battle.
This game has its moments of brilliance (I love the huge boss fights) but the rest of the game is repetetive with poor controls that enevitably leaves you frustrated.
The graphics are OK but nothing special.
The difficulty is definately hard but that is more to do with the controls than the acual game.
You know there is soething wrong with the review score when it's higher than Skyrim which is another RPG but is about 50 times better in every way and has been given game of the year! Whoever reviewed this game for gamespot is WAY off the mark!
Dark Souls is a brilliant masterpiece, one of my favorites personally. This game deserves at least a nominee for GOTY.

The Bottom Line:
Dark Souls is the spiritual successor to the major hit Demon Souls on the ps3. This time around, Dark Souls is now on the Xbox 360 as well, and although you can definately tell that this is a sequel of the sort, you can also tell that there are some big changes in it as well, keeping it fresh and fun! Now, lets begin with the actual review eh?
Dark Souls takes place on the mystical land of Lordran. Now, in Dark Souls, the land is much more, I felt, darker, and much more harsh than its predecessor. In Dark Souls, you play as the nameless undead hero who is sent to Lordran on a journey to pretty much, save the world from darkness. Dark Souls('s?) story is slightly different than most, explained mostly through npcs and item's descriptions. It's lore is huge though, and you will always learn something new when you play through the game many more times! Story: 9/10
Now, lets get to the actual gameplay! Dark Souls plays very much like Demon Souls, where buttons will dodge, attack, block, parry, and activate. The combat is very rich and satisfying, especially when you take down that boss that's been getting you for quite some time! You can play as anything you want really, with you leveling up at checkpoint like things, called bonfires. Bonfires are pretty much what the Black Maiden was in Demon Souls, except much more helpful lol. At a bonfire, you can level up, store items, upgrade equipment ( once you've unlocked the ability. ) and more. It is also where you will refill your estus flasks, which serve as the health recovery in this, instead of the grass in Demon Souls. Now, it should be noted that this game is not for the gamers that flip out easily. In Dark Souls, much like Demon Souls, you need a very big supply of patience, for the harsh traps, bosses, and enemies you will encounter will inevitably kill you. But that is one of the key points, the amazing factor in Dark Souls. You learn. Each time you fall, you learn more about your enemy, and can return from the grave and finally vanquish that enemy. Once this happens, you can't help but feel satisfied and content with the deed.
To the music! Dark souls has a very epic soundtrack, ( though I prefer Demon Souls ) and plays in certain areas as well as each boss. Drums and horns vibrate through the air as you dodge gigantic swings of axes and swords, and the melody of despair will play as you near your doom. Its a very appropriate soundtrack for the game, very dramatic, very big.
Last but not least, we have the graphics. Dark Souls has very gorgeous environments to say the least, whether its the deep, dark forests, or the damp, narrow depths, you will always be gazing at the beautiful area as you exterminate your enemies. From Software definately put alot of effort into making this world beliveable, which should also be noted that there is no longer a hub system. The world is immersive, and huge.
Overall, Dark Souls is a fantastic game, and should be noted on its success. Whether you are mad at the game or not, you have been warned before you make the purchase. ( on the back it says "Prepare to Die" ) So to say that this game is garbage or impossible is absurd. I have beaten this game 3 times now, and it is still amazing. It is not impossible if you strategize and develop over time. This game definately deserves to be a nominee for Game of the Year. Now what are you waiting for? GET THE GAME!
Dark Souls is an outstanding game with really hard difficult but extremely rewarding and addictive.
40 to 100 Hours
The Bottom Line:
Dark Souls is the kind of game that you will love if you like for example play God of war in titan difficult I know I'm that kind of person but really is not for everyone, this is not a game you will start playing and you will just pass it through like most of the games, it takes time and some skills too not to much but definitely is not the kind of game you will beat it just hitting the buttons (skyrim?)not that those kind of games are bad just different thats all, they focus in some other things.
Dark Souls focus on the combat and damn it does an excellent job, the controls at first are a bit strange (target with the button of the right analog stick?) but with the time you get used to it, they are very accurate and response is very good too, I've read some reviews saying that they have some kind of delay, thats not true at all.
About the combat, maybe at first you will find the game a little bit too hard but is not, every enemy can be defeated in some way you just have to find it.
For example the first boss you encounter will be hard to beat but then you climb to a higher place so you can make an attack that takes like half of his health in one hit(you can kill it anyway the first time but it will be much harder) so this is one of the hundreds of examples you will find, first you think is too hard but then you realize there is always a way around to make it more easy, but again is not an easy game, you will die and a lot, trust me but thats the fun, beat a boss after he beat the crap out of you 5 times is priceless (see not everyone find this fun)
You can use the weapons in the two hand at once and you will do much more damage but this will make you have less defense when the enemies attack you, or you can use a shield in one hand and in the other a sword.
You have magic, bows, and everything works well. I've seen some games where if you pick a character that use a bow it really suck well this is not the case, you can actually beat a hard enemies with a bow!
Everything is just perfectly balanced even in the little aspects.
The graphics are just gorgeous. At times you will just stop and start looking the landscape because is just surprisingly well done.
Sometimes with a dark mood and other not that much but always with and amazing amount of details put into it
The sound is amazing too, the story is... well not that good but you don't play it for the story really, they could really focus a little more on the story.
You will face a lot of different types of enemies i mean they are so many types maybe 100 kind of enemies?Yes that much!and all of them have a lot of details in it and don't attack the same way, it just stunning to see so much detail in this kind of things!
The same with armor/weapon/rings/bows/magic/items etc etc there are hundreds of things to get and try it just seems endless.
The graphics are just awesome, with a very dark ambiance make it more enjoyable.
The npcs have some great dialogs, some of the very creepy (most of them :P) other not that much but all of the touches you in some way, one of the flaws demons souls had was this but here they just improve 100%
There are some many things that i could talk about, the online feature, the forge of weapons, the hundreds of secrets etc etc but i just want to give you a little glance of what dark souls is and do well but like i said there is more much more!
Now lets see what is bad in this game:
No map, the world is big and in the first part of the game you are going to get lost a lot, you don't know where are you going and if you can go to that place, in my first 10 hours of gameplay i was completely lost.
No direction at all, at the start you get some clues (very very few) of what to do, not that someones really tells you where to go so you are lost from the start of the game.
The game tends to not letting you go some places by putting difficult enemies that you are just not ready to face them yet but is not the best way to do it specially in this game where you cant tell if it just difficult or you really cant be in that place yet.
The npc progress, i really hate to not know where to go or do next to progress in the game with some npc and for worst sometimes you have to do some specific stuff to progress or they will die!!!!!!! Is trial and error but in this game you cant fail in this kind of stuff once some npc died its done for good, or you start again or you keep going and i really hate this aspect of the game, its not logic and you dont have even a clue of what to do so failing for this its just lame. Worst aspect of the game in my opinion.
The comparison of the weapons/armors you have with others is really bad, you cant see what is the set of what you are wearing to compare it to another thing, for example you have a helmet that protects you 21 % from physical damage and you found a new one that protects 33% well you can see one vs one the game only puts a different color if its better (blue) and red if it bad, and the armors have a lot of stats to look at so this is a really bad system.
The camera sometimes is really really bad, when you are in narrow places walking or running the camera tends to go crazy and this will get you kill for sure!
Some framerate are really bad in the game, like in blightown its seems the game in that part runs at 15 frames per seconds all the time, its really annoying and the game is full with part like this a really shame :( maybe is the engine or maybe its the hardware that it is on the limit i don't know but its very annoying.
Finally some part are hard but not in a good way, when the game puts you walking in a very tight path( if you move 1 square you fall and die) and puts an enemy that makes an attack that with one blow it will make you fall and you dont have any other route to go this is cheap not hard, this and the bad camera makes some parts of the game very tedious to pass.
Even with all thats flaws I cant put a 9 to this game because what it does good it does it admirably well.
This with out any doubt is a 10/10 game!
I will first say that this game is not for everyone!
20 to 40 Hours
The Bottom Line:
I know friends that would go through 20 controllers and 15 T.V.'s attempting to beat this game. It can be very frustrating and difficult. If you are one of those people that get angry and throw things I would not recommend this game... If you are a gamer that loves games and likes to be challenged I would definitely recommend this game. I feel like most titles out today seem to be an easy walkthrough with atmost a moderate challenge on the highest difficulty. If you love to spend hours on end trying to figure out a technique to getting to that item in the distance, or killing that boss, it is a great game. The combat system is consistent, graphics are decent, and the gameplay is addicting. It offers many different classes that demands many different forms of gameplay making it easy to play over and over again. Probably the most appealing part of this game is that I personally can't think of a game like this out today. It is a breath of fresh air from the watered down first-person view and the "hold your hand" guidance of tutorials and quests in games today.
